November 2009 - Oral Specialist odds n ends

In no particular order:
-I sat in on Deb Munro’s weekend voice workshop Nov 7th and 8th. She had 13 students - a nice mix of voices, young & older…a few of whom I’ve had some sort of contact with over the years. Deb brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm to her work. My friend David Cain - a fine DOP (www.davidcain.ca) - was there and shot some footage which I may put up on this blog sometime soon.
The workshop also marked the first time my non-union competitor, Dan Sandor (VOX Talent) and I were in the same room, taking questions from the students about the wonderful world of voice-over representation. It was all very amicable as Deb strategically placed Dan and I beside the candy bowl (left-over from Halloween). Who can’t bond over a Caramilk bar or two?
-Lunched with John Stocker recently (we Thai’d one on). John’s a veteran union voice talent who also does animation casting/producing and one on one voice coaching. I think he’d make a great coach for those in the market. Will update in this space when he gets his website up and running.
-Not just because I did a podcast for the site recently (see the entry below this one) but I would recommend the voices.com Voice Over Experts site (podcasts.voices.com/voiceoverexperts/) It’s free to subscribe and there is on average a podcast a week on various VO topics.
Finally, on a personal note, I’m going to be a first-time father any day now so forgive me if the posts aren’t as frequent in the coming weeks. But I will do my best to keep sharing thoughts, ideas, news and entertaining audio & video from the world of voice-overs!
